1. Dentistry: restorative and endodontics 

Dentistry is where magnification is most established. Controlled studies show that 2.5x loupes increase the accuracy of two-dimensional cavity preparations over the naked eye, while the general rule is that 2.5x suits general and cavity work and 4x or higher is preferred for crown preparation and fine, deep work. Endodontics is a clear case, where magnification is essential for tasks as fine as locating the second mesiobuccal canal in upper molars. 2. Dental hygiene and therapy

4. Plastic, reconstructive and microsurgery 

Microsurgery is defined by working on structures the naked eye cannot resolve, and loupes have made much of it more accessible. A single-surgeon prospective study found no significant difference between loupes and the operating microscope for head and neck microvascular reconstruction, and a reconstructive series concluded that virtually any reconstructive microsurgical procedure can be safely performed with loupe magnification.
